I just thought I would google 'is there any use for a 2005 powermac' today, and voila, here I be. Its been a glorified paperweight for over a year now. I then got really frustated with the lack of software support and left it for dead. I posted a mac bod in london two HDs to install the two last OS's upon, I bought a couple of fancy graphics cards for it (which I have not yet attempted to install) and managed to get it working. two years ago, somewhat bindly, I picked up a 'spares or repair' ppc on ebay for less than a ton. I bought some nasty cheap pc (typing with it now!) which has just about kept going. After that I didnt really use any computers til about 2005. I always loved macs from working in the print industry around 93 to 96. Privacy, ownership and control, regained! Love my Powerbook G4 and my mid-2009 MacMini. I'm now a very happy camper, and only use my Windows PC for web surfing and email (protected by anti-malware software.) My old Macs contain all my data, properly backed up, and are never connected to the Internet. The last straw was when Adobe converted everything to Creative Cloud application subscriptions, effectively holding everyone's Adobe data hostage (fail to pay your subscription fee, and good luck using your files anymore!) So I resuscitated two older macs, maxxed their memories and updated their HDs, realizing that I really didn't need any more applications or cloud subscriptions I already have perfectly fine licensed earlier versions of dozens of all the major applications I expect to ever need, and I don't have to pay any subscriptions to use them. Along with that, it became clear that Microsoft's operating system itself could no longer be trusted to maintain security, as they introduced Windows 10 crammed with unwanted telemetry. Then, the Great Data Grab Conspiracy began to force every user to store their personal and professional data on someone else's computer in the Cloud. I re-purchased all new applications and things went fine for a few years. I was all-mac from the late 1990s until 2009 when an employment change drove me to Windows.
